Missourians for Smart Growth has endorsed Councilman Joe Brazil for Senator from Missouri District 2 because he supports smart growth and conservative principles:

  • Fiscal responsibility.
  • Honest, open and efficient government that encourages citizen participation.
  • Responsibility to taxpayers.
  • Plus, Joe Brazil champions traditional family values including the sanctity of life and defining marriage as being between a man and a woman.

  • Survey Says...

Missourians for Smart Growth recently conducted two online surveys of registered voters in St. Charles and Lincoln counties. The goal was to learn more about the attitudes and opinions of voters regarding issues surrounding growth in our area and the management of that growth. Thank you very much to those of you that participated!

View the complete results of both surveys at our website.

While most respondents favor growth as a way to keep our economy healthy, it is clear that voters expect elected officials to develop and implement growth strategies that maintain the quality of life for current residents in the process, with 96% of respondents considering this issue either very or somewhat important.

Voters also expect elected officials to use the power of eminent domain conservatively and sparingly. 37% of respondents did not believe government should ever use eminent domain, while the remaining 63% favored its use only in very limited circumstances and in some cases, only when put to a vote of the people or when government pays property owners a significant premium for their property.

While there are many issues of concern to voters surrounding growth, increased traffic congestion was one issue mentioned frequently. Elected officials would do well to heed this concern and develop solutions that will be responsive to voters' needs.

We were happy to learn that most voters (over 80%) identified the term "smart growth" with the concept of planning intelligently for growth. This is exactly what Missourians for Smart Growth stands for. We support and expect our elected officials to uphold the quality of life for current residents, while cultivating growth.

The top of mind issues for government to address are:

  • preventing eminent domain abuse, with 92% of respondents considering this very or somewhat urgent,
  • giving voters the right to veto any new taxes and fees, with 91% considering this very or somewhat urgent, and
  • 96% of respondents that expect government to effectively address infrastructure needs such as roads and sewers as part of planning for growth.

Missourians for Smart Growth is dedicated to identifying and supporting candidates who:
  • Demonstrate a track record of supporting smart growth.
  • Stand for conservative principles.
